Our Committees
The Healthy and Safe Neighborhoods coalition is currently focusing on three of our four objectives: Promoting a healthy retail environment, promoting tobacco-free communities, and promoting community wellness. The coalition has recently written a letter of support for smoke-free Sutter County campuses and is working on developing a presentation on tobacco to be presented at the senior center.
The coalition will be involved in administering community surveys this summer to gather data on tobacco retailers and community perceptions on key tobacco issues. We are also working on creating a comprehensive resource guide for childhood obesity prevention, and the Healthy Retail Committee is currently working with two local convenience stores in a pilot project, Shop Healthy Here.
Tobacco Free Community Committee
Promote tobacco free communities by supporting smoke and tobacco free policies and decreasing youth access to tobacco products.
Community Wellness COmmittee
Promote community wellness by addressing physical and behavioral health issues to support a healthy lifestyle and prevent substance abuse.
Healthy Retail Committee
Promote healthy retail by decreasing the amount of tobacco, alcohol, drugs and unhealthy foods marketed and sold to youth. Increase healthy marketing and the availability of healthy foods.
Community Safety Committee
Promote community safety by increasing walkability and safety near schools, parks and neighborhoods and support injury prevention initiatives.
